About Kathleen
I obtained my M.A. in Clinical Counseling from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2008, and my undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago in 2006. In 2011, I officially acquired my professional license as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois (License #: 180.007897). In addition to clinical private practice psychotherapy, I have experience in many different facets of mental health care and have provided professional clinical consultation, clinical assessment, as well as psychoeducational information/talks/presentations to schools, community mental health centers, and non-profit organizations in Chicago and beyond. I continue to utilize these skills and experiences to enhance my ability to provide the best mental health care possible to my community as well as further normalize the process of reaching out for support and treatment for achieving and maintaining mental, emotional, & behavioral wellness.
Credentials:
Bachelor of Science in Psychology, awarded August 2006
Master in Clinical Counseling, awarded August 2008

I find that both the therapist & the client need a safe space to collaborate & engage in real, natural conversation for therapy to truly begin. I believe it is in these moments that we begin to see a useful, meaningful relationship emerge. Once that relationship is established, energy, motivation, & positive change inevitably blossoms. In our work together, I will make it my mission to challenge you to learn more about your self, your relational patterns, as well your true goals and motivations (in essence, finding and embracing what you truly love). Speaking of great loves…
I’m passionate about using books, journals, art, music, poetry, podcasts, blogs, vlogs, videos, memes, cartoons, comics, video games (and just about any other sensory medium you can think of) as a way to tap into a more expansive and vibrant sense of self & enhance personal well-being through relatability/connection (It doesn’t hurt that these are also fairly accessible and affordable self-soothing tools!). For more examples of this, check out… How to Therapy?
About Jennifer
Timing, insight, connections, & action play a role in how we shape our journeys. I encourage you to take control of your own narrative & share your goals with me as your therapist.
Previous stages of my own educational & professional journey were highly-focused on successive achievements in fast-paced spaces such as Harvard University & Fortune 500 companies. I hustled as hard as anyone to earn my Master’s Degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology while working, paying bills & laying the foundation to pursue my passion & calling: being a support for someone when they most need to feel seen, heard & to have hope. I offer a safe space for you to talk & explore what is happening for you & what can be done about it. I take a holistic view of circumstances & plan for long-term growth & wellness.
Credentials:
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, awarded 2006
Master in Clinical Counseling, awarded 2015
LPC Licensed in Illinois since 2015
In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor within the State of Illinois, I bring with me over 15 years of work experience in ‘Corporate America’ building strategies, teams, leaders, and programs, including my greatest impact which was made in Diversity & Inclusion resource groups. If you’ve worked or studied in a high-intensity environment, I understand the pressures.
I also come from a multi-cultural, recently-immigrated, working class Chicago family. If you are navigating life transitions, expectations of you, being “the first to…”, whether new challenges or old systemic patterns and “supposed to’s”, I understand it is layered and complicated. It would be my honor to hear your story and shape a goal-oriented perspective and path forward together. If you are struggling with stigma around mental health or asking for help, we can tackle that in our first conversation. I assure you that you are not alone, and all the strongest people you have ever met do not do great things alone. My counseling approach is integrative and based in understanding and elevating your strengths through elements of Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance & Commitment, Motivational Interviewing and Narrative therapies.
I work to empower you to better address a variety of life’s challenges, such as stress, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, PTSD, body image and eating issues, and identity/relationships including parenthood. These are labels which you may or may not use to describe some of your life’s experiences. You might be feeling like you know what has you feeling uneasy lately, or you might just want to talk with a professional counselor/therapist for the first time. I am here for you, as your unbiased and empathetic resource to connect you with the needed insight and action.
For your awareness and as we will briefly discuss in our first meeting, I am employed and clinically supervised by Kathleen Pendergast LCPC, a private practitioner whose entire career has been as a therapist and who offers valuable perspective. When you contact me, as the State of Illinois requires, you consent that the information you share will also be available to Kathleen Pendergast, LCPC & Clinical Supervisor.
Are we hiring therapists? Yes we are!
KP Therapy offers a unique opportunity for both aspiring clinicians working toward their LPCs or LCPCs as well as seasoned clinicians looking to practice independently. We provide connection to appropriate clinical referrals, as well as individual &/or group supervision & training. As independent clinicians work out of the same office, there is an opportunity to grow your clinical skills, cultivate a myriad of holistic approaches, and explore other creative interventions that will serve to enhance your confidence and satisfaction in working with your clients.
We prioritize candidates who are seeking supervision and clinical consultation and have a desire to work with flexibility - partly in office & partly virtually, from home. We have both part-time or full-time W2 roles available. Both offer competitive compensation, flexible schedules, training & supervision as needed and clinical consulation, as well as CEU opportunities.
